Concrete Moisture Encounter X5 (CMEX5)
The new Concrete Moisture Encounter X5 (CMEX5) represents an all-in-one instrument for flooring professionals, incorporating plug-in ports for the optional RH relative humidity probe testing per ASTM F2170 and heavy-duty pin-type wood probes. It serves as a digital multi-moisture meter for concrete, suitable for the deployment in various applications such as humidity controls of flooring and also for water damage restoration, inspection and even for the measurement of indoor air quality.
The CMEX5 quickly provides accurate quantitative measurements of humidity, using Gravimetric testing for a baseline. Furthermore it provides the Carbide Method equivalent readings for concrete and other cementitious substrates as well as comparative readings as per ASTM F2659.
A Bluetooth connection enables data transferral to the associated iOS or Android app and consequent data reporting.
The CMEX5 offers 4 measurement modes:
Measuring ranges
Moisture content for Concrete 0 → 6,9%
Comparative for Gypsum floor screed 0 → 12
CM Equiv Anhydrite/Concrete 0 → 2,7 / 0 → 4,3
Reference scale 0 → 100
Releative Humidity 0 → 99%
with optional Hygro-i2 probe 0% → 99%RH +/- 2% @ 25°C
Moisture content for wood (with wood pin probes) 5 → 30%
1. Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Mode: The electrical impedance is measured by creating a low frequency alternating electric field between the electrodes as indicated below:
2. Hygrometer Mode: The CMEX5 has an integrated hygrometer that measures the ambient relative humidity (RH), temperature (T), dew point (DP) and humidity ratio (HR G/lb) of the environment. These measurements are continuously indicated at the bottom of the screen (regardless of the mode/scale used), as illustrated below:
3. Equilibrium/Ambient Relative Humidity Mode: In this mode the CMEX5 determines the capacitance of the RH probe sensor which varies with the relative humidity of the testing environment (percentage relative humidity). It also measures temperature and shows dew point and humidity ratio.
4. PIN Meter Mode: The CMEX5 functions with the principle of DC resistance. As the electrode pins are pressed into the wood, the electrical resistance between the elctrodes is measured. The higher the moisture content, the greater the reduction in resistance. The level of resistance is measured and translated into a moisture value as shown in the image hereunder:
The Concrete Moisture Encounter X5 detects and evaluates the moisture conditions within the slab or screed by non-destructively measuring the electrical impedance. A low frequency electronic signal is transmitted into the material under test via the electrodes in the base of the instrument. The strength of this signal varies in proportion to the amount of moisture present in the material. The Concrete Moisture Encounter X5 determines the strength of the current and converts this to a moisture content value for concrete slabs and a comparative value for other cementitious floor screeds, displayed on a large clear digital dial.
